Founded in 1980 by Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, we are active participants in the communities of Eugene and Springfield, OR (and beyond).
OUR MISSION
The West Cascade Peace Corps Association (WCPCA) was founded in 1980 by a group of Returned Peace Corps Volunteers as a means of staying connected while carrying out the third goal of the Peace Corps as mandated by Congress in 1961:To promote a better understanding of other people on the part of the American people.
WHO WE ARE
Most of our members come from Oregon's southern Willamette Valley, especially Eugene-Springfield, but we have members from throughout Oregon as well as current PCVs. Membership is open to all RPCVs, Peace Corps staff, and supporters. We invite prospective Peace Corps volunteers, active Peace Corps volunteers, and their relatives and friends to take part in our activities and join the organization. Our membership dues are low and free memberships are available to all during their first year as a member of the organization and to students. See the Membership page for details.
WHAT WE'VE ACHIEVED
As our group grew, we found that equally important was providing fellowship to newly returning volunteers as they readjust to life in the United States, supporting the work of the Peace Corps recruiters at local campuses, and funding humanitarian projects that support the goals of the Peace Corps. Here are some of our ongoing initiatives…
Funding worthwhile community projects undertaken by Peace Corps volunteers in the field (Peace Corps Partnership) and RPCVs at home (more than $50,000)
Participating in humanitarian and educational programs in our local and regional communities
Providing networking and social opportunities for RPCVs through regular events (annual picnic, book club, etc.) and fundraising
Cooperating with local schools and universities as mentors for future volunteers and resources on various aspects of international exchange
